El año 1973 tiene marcado en su calendario hechos relevantes como el punto y final a la guerra de Vietnam, el golpe de Estado de Pinochet en Chile o el asesinato de Carrero Blanco, a finales del mismo año. En ese mismo mes de diciembre comienza la crisis del petróleo por parte de los países árabes, al multiplicar el precio de barril por veinte, iniciándose una crisis que durará prácticamente diez años…
Desde el punto de vista estrictamente musical, en EEUU se produce un éxito casi inédito-no hay que olvidarse del Himno a la alegría de Miguel Ríos-hasta la fecha : el grupo español Mocedades llega al top 5 con Eres tú, cantada íntegramente en castellano. El rock progresivo sigue siendo minoritario por no decir anecdótico en nuestro país (ej. Conexión, con Luis Cobos a la cabeza) y sobresalen en el panorama español nombres hoy más o menos recordados como Solera (con su disco de debut homónimo, hoy disco de culto), Cecilia, Jeanette, Juan Bau (número uno con La estrella de David), así como Las Grecas o Paco de Lucía, gracias a Te estoy amando y Entre dos aguas, ambas canciones número uno al año siguiente. También sonaban Barrabás, con un enorme éxito allende nuestras fronteras, con su segundo disco, Barrabás Power. Y no podemos olvidar la trágica muerte del gran Nino Bravo, el 16 de abril, en un accidente de coche, a los 28 años. Su canción America America llegaría a estar 6 semanas consecutivas en lo más alto de la lista española de ventas.
Hemos escogido un listado de discos, hasta un total de cien. Puede resultar exagerado; se ha intentado comprimir la lista lo máximo posible, pero este año existe muy buen material. Al fin y al cabo…¿no estamos gracias a alguno de estos discos muchos de nosotros aquí y ahora?
